Galaxy Coaster
With around 50 units operating worldwide, Galaxy (also spelt Galaxi) is one of the most mass produced rollercoaster designs in the world. Galaxys were one of many portable steel coaster designs from Italian based SDC in the early 1970’s. This design was also manufactured in Italy by Daniele Pinfari, to this day.
The Galaxy’s widespread popularity is due to its compact foot-print while offering a relatively long ride of 120 seconds on 335 metres of track with two major dips and a top speed of around 50 km / hour… fun for riders.
There are 2 Galaxy Coasters in Australia, 35+ in North America and at least 15 in Europe, thrilling riders young and old.

Ride Story:
I was at Morey’s Piers once. I was previously on Super Scooters,Sunny C. Gull’s Lighthouse Lookout,Sea Serpent,Ballon Race(Ferris Wheel version),Kite Flyer(Miniature Cliffhanger),Moby Dick and Music Express. I went on the Giant Vekoma Wheel to see what other rides I wanted to go on or do I have to go to another pier. I saw a coaster that looked like either a Pinfari or a Wild Mouse. After the ferris wheel,I darted over to it. It was a Pinfari Galaxy. So I went in line,got a mouse and went up a lift hill.On the hill I got nervous. I went through a Wild Mouse turn. It dropped us,Dad lost his Phillies cap on the bunny hill.All and all 8.8 out of 10.

Pinfari also made a ride for Morty’s Peirs called “RC-48” Wade Shows currently owns this rare ride (1 built; Relocated many times for fair usage.)

The Galaxi rollercoaster is a well loved rider by those who walked amusement parks in the 70’s and 80’s. Most of them have been disappearing from amusement parks (Canobie Lake & York beach have recently removed theres), being replaced with more modern rides or loop coasters. It will be sadley missed by anyone who calls themselves an admirer of “Classic” amusement rides.

i tore the one in saco me. three years ago to make room for a wild mouse.cool coaster.a bit different than the zyklon i was used to.

Adventureland Long Island’s roller coaster all throughout the 70’s and 80’s. Rode it so many times as a kid, remember every twist and turn. They replaced it in 1991 with a brand new compact twister which is even better, but the Galaxy will hold a dear place in my heart as my first ever coaster. One that I’d get to know better than any other.

There was one on Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts. I think my dad rode it smoking a cigarette one time.

There is also one nonstop operating from 1973 in the city of Prague (at Fair grounds), Czech Republic.
It has name Cyklon.

Palace Playland had one from 1994-2017. It’s getting replaced by Preston & Barberi’s Sea Viper in Summer 2018. Funtown Splashtown had their own Galaxi from 1978-2008. It was replaced by Wild Mouse from a Maryland Amusement Park in 2009.

Alas, the Galaxi at Palace Playland – Old Orchard Beach, ME (USA) was finally demolished in September of 2017

I rode the Galaxi that was at the Myrtle Beach Pavillion many times. It is one of the best designs for a roller-coaster in such a small space.
