Originating in 1936 by The Eyerly Aircraft Company (Portland, USA).the Octopus has become a staple fairground attraction. .
The ride consists of a set of undulating arms which bear cars on the end. As the arms raise and lower from the eccentric hub, the cars are exposed to varying clockwise and counter-clockwise spins, resulting in an enjoyable intermediate thrill ride.
Well let’s just say, I can handle this ride, but my brother almost puked:(

Had one of these at the local amusement park, but it was shaped/painted to resemble an octopus – thick, black, wavy “tentacles” with purple suckers with black tubs on the ends.

One of my faves. Last time I rode this, they played BBD’s “Do Me Baby” for the ride music, rofl. I need to get myself some ride time! Unfortunately I live in an area where carnivals only have rides for little kids, guess they figure the big kids and adults are only interested in crafts, beer tents and ’60s tribute bands. Boring!

Never been on this exact model, but did get to ride Eyerly’s Spider version of this ride. This ride was a repeater, meaning well worth the money to buy extra tickets to go on a few more times.

Octopus and Zipper my two favorite rides ever.I am 48 and still love them. Currently i am doing up an old octopus car and i am wanting to paint it up like the one in the sample picture of millers octopus. Great Fun!

I’m iffy about ever going on one of these again. I have since read so many stories about accidents on these where an arm breaks off.
Kelsey - August 1st, 2013 at 1:49 pm

What is the cost of this ride? Not a ticket, but the whole ride. I need to know for a school project.
LALA - November 6th, 2015 at 9:55 pm

lucy - November 6th, 2015 at 9:57 pm
Junior Barnette Mounted his puss on a flat ned with the center over the wheels. The nose of the trailer was lowered to the ground so the who;e ride tilted 30 degrees so the tubs went really high.
ringmaster - July 31st, 2017 at 11:13 am
Omg I once stole this ride then sold it to my fat brother in law. Together we ripped off every community we went to.
The one eyed crow - October 9th, 2018 at 7:32 pm

Linda Pan - November 21st, 2018 at 5:49 pm
If you are going to possess a good time when you visit your next amusement park, make sure you be on the lookout for your octopus ride or something that is similar.

Does anyone have any information about a variant of the Eyerly Spider (6 arms – 2 tubs per arm) that had a hydraulic center lift rather than a offset mechanical swing center?
